The 18th Amber Blindfold and Rapid Chess tournament, organized by the Association Max Euwe in Monaco is taking place from 14 - 26 March at the Palais de la Mediterranee, located on the famous Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France. Alexander Grischuk is still a point ahead of the rest of the field after all the games in 11th round ended in a draw. Tomorrow is the last rest day. Although Grischuk has taken a one-point lead, he has a tough schedule: Carlsen with Black, Anand with White and in the last round Aronian with Black. Linares Chess 09 Round 10: Wang Yue beats Carlsen, Radjabov beats Aronian

Chinese GM Wang Yue launched a beautiful kingside attack, Carlsen could not handle it in time trouble. Aronian missed a tactical combination and lost a pawn in the middle game, he showed hardly any resistance, a very casual four-rook endgame, allowing Radjabov to double rooks on the seventh. Linares Chess 09 Round 9: Carlsen beats Dominguez, treat for Sicilian Dragon lovers

Magnus Carlsen beat Leinier Dominguez in a Sicilian Dragon game. All the Chris Ward fans would be happy to see Sicilian Dragon opening game being played at the top levels. Carlsen created a fantastic position, having considerable number of pieces on the board, Dominguez was into zugzwang on move 42. Other three games ended in a draw. 10th European Individual Women's Chess Championship starting on 7 March

Russian Chess Federation, European Chess Union, St. Petersburg Chess Federation and the City of St. Petersburg are organizing the 10th European Women Chess Championship. 11 rounds Swiss tournament will be played on March 7 - March 21.
The first Women Grand Prix tournament is overlapping with the European Individual Championship. It's little surprising to see the two big events clashing with each other. Report with pictures of Saint Petersburg city.

Etienne Bacrot won the Aeroflot Open 2009 International Chess Festival

The 8th Aeroflot Open 2009 International Chess Festival was held in Moscow from 16 February to 27 February 2009.
French top GM Etienne Bacrot won the event on better tiebreak score. He scored 6.5/9, while Alexander Moiseenko of Ukraine scoring the same stood second.
As part of the Aeroflot Open Chess Festival, in Aeroflot Blitz Qualifier for the World Blitz Championship 165 players took part. 18 year old Ukrainian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin won the Blitz event by scoring 15/18. Report with games.

World Chess Challenge Round 7: Topalov beats Kamsky, wins World Chess Challenge

Bulgarian star, Veselin Topalov won the 8 match Candidates tournament with 2 points 4.5:2.5. This gives him the right to challenge Vishwanathan Anand for the World Chess Championship 2009 title. The match will take place this year in autumn.
ChessBase broadcasted the live games without permission from the Bulgarian Chess Federation. The scandal was close to being referred to the German court, on 20 February the legal defender sent a letter of warning to the owners of ChessBase Mathias Wüllenweber and Reiner Woisin. Linares Chess 09 Round 6: Grischuk beats Aronian, takes sole lead

Alexander Grischuk defeated Levon Aronian to take a sole lead. Carlsen beat the World Champion Viswanathan Anand with excellent end game technique, Anand missed few saving moves in the end game. World Chess Challenge Round 6: game drawn, Topalov leads.

In crucial sixth game, Topalov replied with Caro-Kann defense, he once again came with the novelty 11. .... g6. Playing with white, Kamsky could not able to gain the opening advantage and soon after the exchange of pieces, the the game became drawish. Kamsky had no other option than repeating the moves.
Kamsky is trailing by one full point with only 2 games to play. Report with games and pictures.
