FIDE and FIDE Trainers Committee
has published the confirmed list of successful
FIDE training title applicants via 2nd Direct Approval Process, and the list of
new successful graduates from FIDE Academy Seminars held in USA, Germany and
Singapore. Its really surprising and disappointing to see FIDE's Chess Trainer
and Chess Instructor list. There are just 2-3 Indian names in the FIDE approved Chess Instructors
list.
This article will introduce chess coaches to FIDE's chess training program.
I am highlighting few points and statistics
that indicate India is one of the leading country in the terms of chess players,
chess coaches, number of chess tournaments, chess resources etc.
India and Chess :
Recently a research team has found the
first physical evidence that proves Chess came from India.
Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand is
leading the FIDE rating list since April 2007.
Grandmaster K. Humpy is set to create history
by achieving the 2600 Fide rating in the October list. This performance would
make her only the second woman ever to reach 2600 mark.
There are around 3000 FIDE rated chess
players in India and must be more than 10000 chess players over all.
In the big cities there are at least 30
well known chess coaches who are doing very well by conducting chess classes
as well as personal chess coaching. I should mention that chess coaching is
the only source of income for most of these coaches and still they are doing
excellent. They are very professional chess coaches.
Every year Pune District Chess
Association conducts inter-school chess tournament and the response they get
is unbelievable. More than 1000 chess players participate every year! (chess
players from Pune district region only) Here I am just taking an example of
inter-school chess tournament conducted by Pune District Chess Association, I
am sure in almost all the cities inter-school chess tournaments must be
getting similar response.
In India, Chess tournaments take place
literally on all 365 days of the year. In fact few FIDE rating chess
tournament's dates gets clashed with each other. I am not considering club
level chess tournaments here.
After going through these highlights its very
surprising to see just 2-3 Indian names in FIDE's Trainer and
Instructor list.
Lets see the details of FIDE training program :
FIDE conducted a training program on 20th October 2006. The aim of this program
was to enable participants to teach young and gifted players in schools and
chess-clubs and to educate Trainers and Chess-Teachers not only in their own
countries but also on an international basis.
They have classified chess trainers into 4 categories :
