Vladimir Kramnik won the Tal Memorial 2009

Vladimir Kramnik won the Tal Memorial with 6.0/9 and a 2883 performance. He successfully defended the kingside attack by Vassily Ivanchuk in the last round. Anand blundered against Aronian, as a result Kramnik secured clear first place. Carlsen defeated Leko to share the second spot and to become the world’s number one in the live ratings!

The 2009 Tal Memorial took place on 5-14th November in Moscow, Russia. Ten out of thirteen top players participated in this prestigious event.
The category 21 round-robin chess event with players Viswanathan Anand (India, 2788), Levon Aronian (Armenia, 2786), Magnus Carlsen (Norway, 2801), Vladimir Kramnik (Russia, 2772), Peter Leko (Hungary, 2752), Boris Gelfand (Israel, 2758), Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine, 2739) Alexander Morozevich (Russia, 2750), Peter Svidler (Russia, 2754) and Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine, 2739).
