Boris Gelfand from Israel won the Chess World
Cup 2009. He beat the Ukrainian chess player Ruslan Ponomariov in the tie
breaks 7-5. Gelfand defeated Ponomariov in the 3rd and 4th game of the
blitz playoff. The three weeks marathon of the World Cup is over.
The result of the competition seems logical and fair. The top seeded
became the best player of the tournament!
The FIDE World Chess Cup took place in
Khanty-Mansiysk from November 20th - December 15th 2009. It was a
seven-round knockout event with time control of 90 minutes for the first
40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition
of 30 seconds per move increment.
