Susan Lalic's statement, "I'm not really expected to win against men" really not going to help her/women chess players playing against men. Ask Judith Polgar, she is one of the top chess players in the world. (the only woman among the top 100 players.) Was this evidence that women did poorly in chess because of "social conditioning" or "peer pressure" or "environmental factors"? Lets see Judith Polgar's background, Her parents were both very good chess players as is her sister. Her father quit his job, pulled Judith out of school, and worked full time to improve her chess. She came from a nation in which chess is almost an obsession. If any woman could have become the best chess player in the world, it was Judith Polgar.

Its hard to believe that women chess players feel inferior when they play against men. In fact women chess players play with the killer instinct especially when they play against men. If you observe the chess games of Women chess player then you would notice that the games quality/performance of women chess player is always far better when they participate in men's chess tournaments. Women chess players have an advantage over men chess players, they may participate in any chess tournaments they wish to participate. They can participate in men's district, state, national level chess tournaments.
